Covid ‘third wave’ has begun in Germany and Italy set for Easter lockdown

The head of Germany’s public health agency on Friday warned that a third wave of coronavirus infections has already begun. German Chancellor Angela Merkel had previously warned the country could be caught in a third wave of infections if restrictive public health measures were lifted too quickly. People with Dementia are Twice as Likely to get COVID-19

A new study, led by researchers at Case Western Reserve University, found dementia increases the risk and severity of COVID-19, using information from the electronic health records of about 61.9 million U.S. adults from all 50 states to explore the link between dementia and COVID-19. The data was collected as part of the IBM Watson Health database. In this dataset, more than 1 million patients had dementia, 15,770 had COVID-19, and 810 had both. The study found that people with dementia were twice as likely to get COVID-19 compared with people without dementia, even after adjusting for age, sex, living in a nursing home, and having similar preexisting conditions. The researchers suggest that the memory problems associated with dementia might make it difficult for patients to stick to safety measures such as wearing masks, washing hands frequently, and social distancing. Plays, concerts and other live performances can resume in New York starting April 2nd as long as attendees wear a mask.

According to the New York Times, the state’s arts and entertainment venues will be permitted to resume live productions starting on April 2 with a number of restrictions in place. Each space can operate at 33 percent capacity with a maximum of 100 people indoor events and 200 people for those being held outdoors. If attendees can provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry, capacity may be raised to 150 and 500 people for indoor and outdoor events, respectively.
